Forest – Sense of Depth

My project is moving towards a focus of light. I’m still working with the idea of a higher power but I’m channelling that through landscape, namely landscapes which exhibit extraordinary light. It’s pretty difficult to get such landscape photos of my own (partly because of where I live, partly because of my relative ineptitude for capturing really slick photographs), so I’m going to try and inject that sense of luminosity in the painting, that sense of soul and sublime sensation. The feeling that there is something greater at work.

So these are my initial experiments, and I’m just looking at different ways to use the oil as I’m still fairly inexperienced with it, but I’ve definitely fallen in love with oil paint. This lil’ sketch is of a photo from Beacon Hill again, and I’m just trying to get a sense of depth using layers and a sense of atmosphere.
