Oil “Reduction” Painting – “Silent Resilience”

One of my tutors today described my process of cutting away the layers of paint to reveal what is underneath as “reduction”, and I really like that description, so I’m rolling with that for now as a name for these types of painting!

For this one I really wanted to put across the idea of the internal power of nature, or the “silent resilience” which I imagine as a fluid light running through nature. I chose turquoise for my light colour because that’s the colour I associate with a fluid, purposeful, powerful light.

It was nice to use a cooler colour, and to play around with a slightly more illustrative.
